TOZIE ZOKUFA

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

A few of Tozie’s organizational involvement have included Compassion in World Farming, Humane Society International, Humane Education Trust, Animal Voice and Pan African Animal Welfare Alliance and currently he is involved with Africa Network for Animal Welfare, Cape Animal Welfare Forum, World Animal Net, Coalition for African Animal Welfare Organisations, Soil for Life and World Animal Day.

Tozie is a member of the African Union’s Africa Platform for Animal Welfare and serve on the Coordination Committee for the implementation of the Africa Strategy for Animal Welfare. He leads the Animal Welfare Portfolio for the South African Veterinary Council. He serves on the International Policy forum of World Animal Net and is a member of the International Coalition for Animal Welfare, which is the collaborating partner to the World Organisation for Animal Health. He is currently the Executive Director in South Africa of A Greener World – www.agreenerworld.org working with farmers in the field of farm audits and certification.

SHEPHARD HUNI

DIRECTOR

Shephard Huni, is passionate about animals since his childhood, he is a qualified professional accountant who graduated with a Bcom (Hons) Accounting degree from Midlands State University in Zimbabwe. He did his SAICA articles (trainee accountant) with a medium seized chartered accountants firm in Cape Town. He is also a member of Southern institute of Business Accountants in South Africa. (SAIBA). Soon after completing his articles, Shephard worked for various chartered accounting firms being involved in auditing, accounting, taxation and business advisory work for various types of businesses. He has extensive experience in accounting, auditing, taxation and business advisory at senior level, as he worked as a senior accountant, manager and director at different accounting firms, he holds a certificate in education and he worked as a lecturer for many years

SHEPHARD HUNI

DIRECTOR

DR MOKOKA NAWA

Dr. Mokoka-Nawa is a veterinarian qualified from the University of West Indies, Trinidad, and Tobago. She has eight years of experience in the Veterinary public health under the Department of Veterinary Services. Dr. Mokoka-Nawa currently serves as the Official Veterinarian responsible for regulating and ensuring compliance of the slaughter facility exporting beef to the European Union and other markets. She is also the OIE national focal point for Animal Welfare for Botswana.

KEITUMETSE TAUNYANE

Keitumetse Taunyane is an Admitted Attorney with Right of Appearance in the High Court and over 10 years post-admission experience in the litigation of Personal Injury claims, Unlawful Arrests, Family Law and Criminal Law.

She graduated with the Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Pretoria and has served her articles at the offices of Mothle Jooma Sabdia Inc in Brooklyn Pretoria under the mentorship of the Senior Associate Mr Victor Short.

She is also the Founder and Director of Taunyane Attorneys Inc in Mabopane, situated in the North of Pretoria. Keitumetse has taken a keen interest in the rehabilitation and resocialization of convicted and detained individuals and is currently studying towards her Diploma in Corrections Management through the University of South Africa.

MANDLA GQAMLANA

PROGRAMMES DIRECTOR

PROGRAMMES DIRECTOR Currently serves as the Programmes Director for CAAWO and previously served as a Company Relations and Campaigns Coordinator at the Southern African Faith Communities’ Environment Institute and before that he served as the Operations Manager at a South African animal welfare clinic. He studied politics at the University of the Western Cape and has been involved in the South African trade union movement and development sector since the earliest days of his working life.

ZINTLE MGWELE

Executive Administrator of CAAWO

Zintle Mgwele, is an Executive Administrator at the Coalition of African Animal Welfare (CAAWO), she is a dedicated professional committed to making a positive impact on animal welfare in Africa. With a passion for animals and extensive experience in administration, people management, partner relationships, training and development and currently plays a crucial role in supporting CAAWO’s mission and objectives.  Her deep understanding of administrative processes, fundraising strategies, volunteer management, and advocacy campaigns enables her to effectively contribute to CAAWO’s success

ASHLEY BALOYI

Ashley Baloyi studied for a diploma in Nature Conservation and currently working on a degree in Public Administration. He has worked extensively with the SPCAs and local communities. He is based in South Africa

ERASTO NJAVIKE

His background is in both primary and secondary school education. For more than 10 years he has dedicated his time to environmental education training and coaching through competency-based designed training for teachers and students on how they can best incorporate and understand EE in their subjects. Currently, he is implementing a “Friends of Donkey Project” in line with the effects of climate change, focusing on education and awareness of animal welfare and healthy living. He works as the Northern Zone Program Manager for the Jane Goodall Institute, Roots & Shoots Program in Tanzania, based in Arusha.

PENNY WARD

Has a Master’s in Town Planning from the University of Cape Town. She has always worked in the civil society sector. Her working history includes a range of international NGOs in human development. Many of the projects she worked on have focused on sustainable livelihoods and food security. She joined World Horse Welfare in 2014 as the Southern Africa Regional Coordinator. Part of her role involves linking human development and animal welfare organisations to work together on One Welfare initiatives.

DR MPHO HLALELE

Dr Mpho Mary Hlalele is an accomplished philanthropy consultant with a solid track-record in partnership development, resource mobilisation and donor engagement. She is currently the Philanthropy Partnerships Lead for the pan-European animal advocacy organisation Eurogroup for Animals, with its headquarters in Belgium. She obtained her Degree of Veterinary Medicine from St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine, in Grenada (Caribbean). Upon graduating she spent 7 years within the animal welfare sector in Cape Town initially practising as a Veterinarian and then managing the Animal Anti-Cruelty League NGO. Following this, she became the Head of Philanthropy with a boutique family office, assisting HNW families with their philanthropic portfolios for 4 years. Dr. Hlalele serves as chairperson of the Management Committee of the Cart Horse Protection Association, based in Cape Town. She is currently living in Montpellier, France, with her husband, two kids and Goose, their beloved adopted cat.

ELIZABETH MYER-KOMEN

Her background is in social work, followed by veterinary nursing focusing on wildlife. She founded and directs an (NARREC) in Namibia with two prime functions: the rehabilitation of injured orphaned and misplaced wildlife; and environmental education. The centre-based work focuses on birds of prey. Outreach includes training workshops and resource materials for farmers, focussing on knowledge of birds and the issues of poison used as pesticide and mitigation at poison events. Currently, she is serving a second term on the Namibia Veterinary Council and is a founding member of the newly formed Namibia Veterinary Technicians Association for all para-veterinary professionals. JOHNSON LYIMO

Is the founder and President of the Meru Animal Welfare Organization based in Usa River, Arusha, Tanzania. Mr. Lyimo has extensive experience working in the field of animal welfare in Tanzania.

LOVEMORE MTSITSI

His work has been in farmer organization, business, and market development within the agriculture sector in Malawi. Since 2016, his work has concentrated more on policy analysis and advocacy for the agriculture sector where he has actively participated in the formulation and revision of both new and existing agriculture-related policies. He has also worked in the country’s regulatory environment where he has contributed to the review and development of new standards and legislation guiding the agriculture sector in Malawi. Currently, he currently works as a Program Manager, responsible for Value Chain development & International Trade and Livestock, Dairy, and Aquaculture development, for the Civil Society Agriculture Network (CISANET), a member-based civil society organization that is mandated to provide space for dialogue on agricultural policy-related issues in Malawi.

EVELINE SIBINDI VAN DAM

Eveline Sibindi van Dam is born and bred in the Netherlands and first moved to Africa in 2003. Since 2005 she is settled in Malawi. She is an entrepreneur and has great passion for Animal Welfare. She runs a hotel, beauty spa, and sustainable housing project and is a mother of 2. She joined the board of Trustees of the LSPCA in 2010, which eventually led to her Chairing the board. Eveline is currently the Interim CEO of the LSPCA.
